e-learning programme in Medical Parasitology and Medical Mycology
work-based
As part of a two year European Union (Leonardo da Vinci)-funded project two interactive electronic (e)-learning programmes in medical parasitology (PARASITim@ge) and medical mycology (MYCOim@ge) have been created for medical and allied health professionals (CSs and BMSs) routinely involved in these investigations in non-specialised clinical laboratories. These multilingual annual courses have been created between France, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the UK (in the UK, the language used will be English) and are based on actual case presentations, diagnosis and treatment. A minimum of 30 allied health professionals at all levels and junior medical laboratory practice doctors will be accepted into each year of the two year programme free of charge, after which period charges will apply.
For further details please download the programme information or contact Professor Huw Smith.
European Antibiotic Awareness Day 2011
Friday 18th November 2011
Multiple locations
European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) was established to annually highlight the problem of antibiotic resistance and the need for appropriate use of antibiotics in hospitals and primary care. It aims to raise the awareness of the issues among prescribers, non-prescribing healthcare professionals, patients and medical students. EAAD is supported by the Department of Health, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and other professional bodies.
More information about EAAD, including educational materials to publicise the need for prudent antimicrobial use, can be found on the DH website. Events taking place on EAAD 2011 include:
• The DH Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infections will be launching new antimicrobial stewardship guidance for secondary care in England.
• Whole-day symposium supporting EAAD at the Federation of Infection Societies Conference (FIS 2011, Manchester Central, Wednesday 16th – Friday 18th November).
The funding landscape for infectious disease researchers– what money is out there and how to get it
Friday 9th December 2011
Friends House, London
This Infectious Disease Research Network workshop is set up to provide information about some of the main funding sources that are available to infectious disease researchers. It is heavily subsidised, being free for current students, and just £30.09 for all other delegates.
There will be talks from the major contributors to UK infection research, including representatives from the MRC, Wellcome, NIHR, European Commission and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
This promises to be an exciting and stimulating event for those involved in research of all disciplines and at all levels of seniority, with plenty of discussion, networking and collaboration. There will also be interesting talks from both senior and junior researchers that have received monies from one of the above funders who will outline current or recently completed work on a range of different diseases and disciplines, a poster session for viewing during lunchtime and breaks, several stands from the main research charities plus relevant professional bodies & societies and industry and a post-event webpage with presentations from the day, an attendees distribution list, contributor/sponsor resources, etc.
